Dear President Obama

December 7, 2016

Dear President Obama,

We have something in common, you and I.   We each have two beautiful children, ages 18 and 15.
At your election evening victory rally in 2008I watched with great interest the live broadcast of your family standing up on the stage in the cold night.  I watched you hold your daughter’s hand, pick her up, hug her.  I watched her beam a great big familiar smileright back at you.  These are not children who are only paraded out for special occasions, I remember thinking.  These are kids who benefit from their parents love and attention each and every day – even, and especially, when the cameras aren’t watching.
I knew then that what I had suspected all along would be true: that you would make a terrific president.  A man who is good to his family will be good to other people.  I knew you would be honest, caring, sincere, intelligent, exacting, energetic, dignified and honorable.  So honorable.
And it turns out that I was right.    For eight years, you lead this country with grace and perseverance. Are we better off now than eight years ago? A resounding ‘yes’.
I look forward to continuing to watch our children grow in this great nation; we are most certainly going to need their strength and resilience in the upcoming years.  Thank you, sir, for your service to our country.  Thank you for giving us your heart and your soul and your tears.
Thank you.

Sincerely,

Patricia M Cook
