Chapter 2
The Higgins’ Hate

As far as time went, the line of the Olders had a unsettled dispute against the Higgins family. The Olders had always come first in everything. Little Mary Beth’s Great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather, Erwin Older, had been the first in the town that held Erwindoll Manor, the still-standing residence of every Older generation (except for the very first) up to date, to wear socks. Elphaba Higgins wore them a mere day next, but nobody remembered her. Dating back to Native American time, Mausi Hunt and William Alcott Older, the original Olders, had taught lacrosse to one hundred orphans before Yuma Nez and Elise Blackwell had even heard of it. And now, today, the newest generation of the Olders, Little Mary Beth, had never met Harrison Higgins, her official rival, in her life until one day at Church…
